The Danish Hospitals Caring Clowns

The idea behind the Caring Clowns Association is that humor eases and helps the healing process. A caring clown shows that humor, joy and empathy generates therapeutic care for people who for some period of time are deprived of the possibility to live a normal life due to illness. At the same time, the caring clown contributes to diminishing the feeling of alienation and helplessness.
All clowns go through a one-year training program where they learn to handle the feelings and trauma of children who are hospitalized.

The Danish Hospitals’ Caring Clowns Association work to finance permanent clown projects at all of the 41 children’s wards in Denmark.

Ole Kirk’s Foundation has supported the Danish Hospitals’ Caring Clowns projects on an ongoing basis. Most recently, it financed a one-year long visit from a caring clown in a children’s ward.
